Qualifications:
- Elementary school teaching experience and/or elementary special education teaching experience (student teaching experience accepted)
- Experience teaching reading to emerging readers preferred
- Previous experience with complex learners preferred
- Understanding of progressive education ideals & practices preferred
Curriculum and Instruction:
- Develop deep understanding of individual learners in a small mixed-age K/1 classroom
- Support the implementation of research-based curriculum in reading and math
- Teach science or social studies rotation
- Participate in teaching team to support learning needs of all students at Open Wings North Shore
- Participate in ongoing professional development through weekly meetings and regular curricular seminars
- Other duties as assigned such as lunch and recess and other times of student connection and guidance
Open Wings Learning Community is a small independent school that opened in the fall of 2012 in Kenosha, WI. The second site, Open Wings – North Shore, will open in the fall of 2025. We work as a team of teachers, therapists, classroom associates, and volunteers in our schools. Our learning environment is collaborative, creative, and research focused.
